So, I’ve just picked up the latest March issue of one of the UK’s hottest selling Fash Mags; Glamour and was excited to see that alongside lifestyle articles and beauty advice was a cute and colourful editorial, impeccably styled and wonderfully shot lying between the pages of the centrefold. However, the editorial in question sparks even more enthusiasm as I discovered that not only does it manifest the dominant trends of the future months but it has been entirely and affectionately focused around the exclusive new Spring/Summer collections fresh in the Bras&Honey office from Lingerie Gurus Freya.
Spring/Summer trends are possibly the most exciting of the year, longer days mean less Pyjama time and warmer climates offer the opportunity to spend our days lazing in our lingerie...kind of. The huge trend forecasting is led by the dreamy return of Pastels, sweeping the catwalks of Fashion Monsters, Burberry, Temperley of London and Christopher Kane who all utilised soft hues of pink, blue and green amongst their designs, in addition fancy fondant shades have already featured heavily at NY Fashion week making candy colours imperative for the following season. The Hopscotch from Freya combines pastel hues in a playful and contemporary adaptation of the traditional gingham print. The Hopscotch Longline Bra and Brazilian co-ordinates featured in the Edit, channel a fun and flirtatious new demeanour to the long established Freya brand. Longline lingerie interprets a playful, fifties ambience, relevant to the forever returning retro revival, whilst the pretty lace accents and pixelated graphic print make me want to style this set up with the Cashmere Cardy and hit up Arnolds Drive-In for a strawberry Shake with the Fonz and the rest of the Happy Days crew.
Florals have never quite escaped the Spring Months. This year efflorescent prints are big game as they shed the chincy, romantic vibes of yester year and adopt a new rebellious persona. Blossoms in a multitude of textures and embellishments combine with bold, contrasting colours in Acid Brights, Vibrant Colour Pops and Neon Subtleties, as seen at the Mary Katrantzou and Phillip Lim shows at London Fashion Week. The Tropics range delivers floral in an exciting and refreshing palette of orange, blue and red, the print representative of the Arty influences emerging from DVFs Andy Warhol Collab, enforcing a technical fusion of brush stroke and watercolour to make this floral a super-charged, super-trendy riot against girlie botanicals.
Blocked, bold colour in clean, minimal shapes reflects the Sports Luxe update, gravitating in Milan. Vibrant colour pallets mesh with understated fits and fabrics for effortless cool. The Deco in cobalt replicates the simplicity of the understated sports trend in a classic plunge and statement Cobalt blue, striking the perfect balance in minimalism and strength with that twist of feminine sensuality.
A Retro presence remains strong and begins to channel sweet girly edges parallel to the fifties nostalgia. Frills, polka-dots and ice cream palettes fuse in a playful cocktail of unprecedented femininity and the Patsy range does but distribute vintage vixen in a montage of polka-dots, bows and frills in magenta and blue. The half-cup bra provides a natural lift and cleavage whilst the tiered frills accentuate hips for an hour-glass silhouette evocative of iconic pin-up Bettie Page.
Alongside these delicious editorial images, I couldn’t help but include the cool and refreshing Deco in Lagoon. Freya’s bestselling rage has adapted influences from the coral reef into this cool and cute design, pastels and bolds combine to give the lagoon a cute and contemporary vibe whilst retaining an essence of the emerging sport trend. Undoubtedly my favourite front-runner for SS 14.
