Measuring your own bra size can be tricky, especially if you don’t have a fabric tape measure – confession time, the first time I learned how to measure my bra size I wasn’t convinced the simple calculations would work, so I immediately had to try it for myself with all I had to hand, which was a metal ruler! Surprisingly it actually came out fairly accurate to the size I was wearing, but don’t try that at home!
Now online shopping is so convenient, we can literally order our groceries on the bus home from work and have them there waiting for us at the front door by the time we get in. It’s not too different for clothes shopping online, but that convenience is sometimes compromised when there is always the nagging question of ‘will it fit?’ lingering in the backs of our minds.
Underwear, rather like shoes, is one of those departments where size really does matter. We can always add a belt to make that must have dress fit, or pull on some shape pants under those skin tight jeans, but a bra that doesn’t fit perfectly is a major no-no.
We talk about finding the right bra size a lot here because we can’t emphasise enough just how important it is. It’s not just the comfort issue; the wrong bra can have adverse effects on your health, causing anything from posture problems to headaches and more.
What to do about it
So if you do one good thing for yourself today, find your perfect fit because it really is so easy!
Firstly, you need to invest in a fabric tape measure. When we say invest, we say it loosely - you can get one of these incredibly useful items from as little as 80p from your local haberdashery or craft store, and markets are a great place to find things like this.
Secondly, take a look at this step-by-step guide for measuring your bra size. What’s more, the handy bra size chart shows you how to convert your size from international bra sizing, so you know exactly what size you’re looking for wherever you are in the world (and it’s an absolute gem if you’re planning on doing some lingerie shopping while you’re on holiday!). Sometimes though seeing is believing, so if you’re still having trouble, try this video out for size. Put together by one of our favourite lingerie brands Panache, it has all the info you need to get to know your fit.
